National Crime Victims' Rights Week (NCVRW) Theme DVD 2013 (December 2012)

Part of the NCVRW Resource Guide, this DVD includes a 5-minute feature video —New Challenges. New Solutions. —and three 30-second television public service announcements (PSAs) that address the topics of child sexual abuse, child sex trafficking, and elder abuse. Attorney General Guidelines for Victim and Witness Assistance 2011 Edition (Revised May 2012) (May 2012)

These guidelines establish policy and provide guidance to be followed by U.S. Department of Justice personnel in their interactions with crime victims and witnesses. Effective October 1, 2011, these guidelines clarified DOJ's responsibilities to provide mandated rights and services enumerated in the Crime Victims’ Rights Act (CVRA) and the Victims' Rights and Restitution Act (VRRA) as well as other statutory requirements. Furthermore, the guidelines examine the unique requirements of vulnerable victims, including a recent update in May 2012 that addresses the scope of the federal child abuse reporting requirement under section 13031 of the Victims of Child Abuse Act of 1990, 42 U.S.C. § 13031.

Outreach to Underserved Teen Victims of Crime (2012)

The National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) and the National Center for Victims of Crime (National Center), with funding from OVC, produced this guidebook and accompanying Web-based resources to provide an overview of the challenges faced in conducting outreach to underserved teen victims of crime. The materials highlight examples of the various projects and resources developed and implemented in local communities through the Underserved Teen Victims Initiative.

No More Rights Without Remedies: An Impact Evaluation of the National Crime Victim Law Institute's Victims' Rights Clinics, Final Technical Report (2012)

This grant report evaluates the National Crime Victim Law Institute's (NCVLI) victims' rights clinics. The clinics were designed to increase awareness of victims' rights among criminal justice professionals and to respond to violations of rights through legal advocacy. The current report examines the clinics' impact on the expansion of rights for victims, on court officials' attitudes toward victims' rights, on the extent to which victims' rights are honored in the criminal disposition process, and on the treatment of victims' rights in the print media. It also includes a discussion of sustainability of the clinics.

Gaining Insight Taking Action Basic Skills for Serving Victims DVD and Companion Guidebook (April 2011)

This 55-minute DVD comprises three videos and guidebooks: Listen to My Story: Communicating With Victims of Crime; Meeting the Needs of Underserved Victims; and Substance Abuse and Victimization. Effectiveness of Coordinated Outreach in Intimate Partner Violence Cases: A Randomized, Longitudinal Design (March 2011)

The current study tested the prediction that early coordinated victim outreach would improve criminal justice outcomes as well as increase victim safety and empowerment among victims of intimate partner violence (IPV). In collaboration with research, criminal justice, and community-based partners, this project evaluated an innovative outreach program for racially and ethnically diverse IPV victims whose cases had come to the attention of the criminal justice system.

In Their Own Words: Domestic Abuse in Later Life (August 2010)

This two-DVD package and training guide (NCJ 227928) uses the voices of older victims to facilitate a dialog among a range of professionals about the dynamics of abuse, the barriers these victims have to overcome to live free from abuse, and interventions and potential collaborations that may be effective in such cases. In addition to individual segments with victims, family members, victim service providers, and allied professionals, the DVDs include several topical segments and a montage of victim and advocate voices designed for use by policymakers. It also includes an interactive role play between a parish nurse and an adult daughter caring for her father intended to help professionals recognize justifications for elder mistreatment. A trainer's guide, which accompanies these DVDs, provides background on the victims and discussion questions targeted at a variety of professional audiences.

It includes a list of the expenses that are eligible for reimbursement; explains the difference between itemized, interim emergency, and supplemental applications; and provides deadlines for filing a claim.
